The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to end extreme poverty by 2030 is unlikely to be met—no thanks, in large part, to Nigeria.
The 86.9 million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty represents nearly 50% of its estimated 180 million population. As Nigeria faces a major population boom—it will become the World’s third largest country by 2050—it’s a problem that will likely worsen. But having large swathes of people still living in extreme poverty is an Africa-wide problem.
Poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision-making.
More than ten percent of the world population lives in extreme poverty (less than $1.90 per day). One in Nine people in Nigeria still do not have what to eat; lacking access to one or more basic human needs: sufficient food, safe drinking water, or adequate shelter.
Our Solution Core Areas are carefully crafted to encompass every focal area that can sustainably eradicate poverty and poverty related situation. Our Solution Core Areas are in these 5 Ways:
Hunger can drown out the message of hope, making it important to first meet the physical need of food. Bakog Foundation provides nourishing food for hungry kids across Nigeria.
Bakog Foundation empowers these children with educational materials, resources, tuition and mental strength. We equip children with the Hope for a better tomorrow irrespective of ethnicity, religion, background and circumstances.
Our approach promotes cordiality in our engagement with these children and their families; as a result, we are able to determine other types of help that will benefit these children. As the lack of nutrition is evident, Bakog Foundation offer medical aids for these ailing / indisposed children.
We value relationship, especially the relationship between Bakog Foundation and these children and their communities. Bakog Foundation leverages on this relationships to connect children and their families to information, education and mental help.
Children’s lives are endangered without Shelter; they are exposed to diverse diseases, hazards and threats. Bakog Foundation seeks to address this problem by providing Housing assistance where required and/or revamp existing ones for these children and their families.
